It is a well known fact that some of the leading Nigerian medical practitioners have been residing in  Ireland for over 20 years.  Interestingly more Nigerian professionals in various disciplines such as IT, Engineering, Accountancy, Law and Banking are easily identified within the middle class areas of Dublin and environ cities.

Within the past 10 years the Nigerian community in the Republic of Ireland have been highly proactive in their contribution towards social well being within the wider community. One of the major results of this proactive nature was the election of the first African Mayor who so happens to be a Nigerian.

Mayor Rotmi Adebari was elected the Mayor of Portlaoise of county Laois in June 2007
